Delivery of dangerous goods from Europe to Ukraine is one of the most complex types of transport services. This is explained by the fact that improperly organized transportation of dangerous goods poses a potential danger to the environment, as well as human health and life. Therefore, services must be provided in accordance with current international norms and standards, by companies that have the appropriate permission and license to do so. In Ukraine, the leader in this segment of the cargo transportation market is the Grand Logistics Company, which has its own fleet of trucks and special equipment with permission to transport dangerous goods within the country and abroad, as well as a staff of qualified drivers who have undergone special training within the framework of ADR.
What goods are classified as dangerous?
The concept of “Dangerous Goods” is defined in document No. 1644-III in general terms. This category unites substances and materials that, during transportation, can damage vehicles, buildings, structures and at the same time harm the environment, as well as the life and health of people and animals. This is explained by their certain properties and ability to provoke a fire, explosion and other negative impacts. This category includes solvents, aerosols, adhesives, paints, varnishes, acids, pesticides, fuel, lithium batteries, fire extinguishers, some types of medications and much more; in total, the list of dangerous goods includes over 3,500 items.
It is important to understand that the threat posed by such substances and materials (fire, explosion, infectious or radioactive contamination, etc.) can only be realized if specific conditions coincide during their loading/unloading and transportation. Therefore, in order to prevent the coincidence of these factors and possible negative consequences, the transportation of dangerous goods is carried out strictly according to established rules, in compliance with the necessary conditions and standards.
Classification of dangerous goods
In accordance with the law of Ukraine on the transportation of dangerous goods, all materials and substances falling into this category are divided according to the type of hazard and degree of impact into 9 main classes:
1 - Explosive;
2 - Gaseous;
3 - Liquids that are easily flammable;
4 - Spontaneously combustible substances;
5 - Organic peroxides that can provoke the ignition of other materials and objects, support combustion, oxidize;
6 - Various types of substances (infectious and toxic);
7 - Radioactive, as well as substances containing radioactive isotopes;
8 - Corrosive materials;
9 - Other types.
The subjects of transportation of dangerous goods are the senders, the transport company and the recipient. In this case, the sender is obliged to ensure that all preparatory measures are completed and the cargo is transferred to the carrier with a full package of accompanying documentation, in undamaged and appropriate packaging, which must be marked with special markings.
The logistics company is obliged to accept dangerous cargo and deliver it to its destination within the specified time frame. In this case, only suitable transport should be used, and the route should be previously agreed with representatives of the relevant services and the National Police.
The recipient, upon acceptance of the delivered cargo, must carefully check the integrity of the packaging, compliance with its quantity and markings specified in the documents and ensure unloading of the vehicle in compliance with all rules and conditions.
