Ukrainian customs will strengthen control over the import of ozone-depleting substances
March 30, 2016
Customs of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine (SFSU) will receive special equipment to determine the composition of compounds supplied to Ukraine. This is an effective control on the import of ozone-depleting substances into the territory of Ukraine. Their list is approved by the government of Ukraine in accordance with international obligations.
SFSU Chairman Roman Nasirov and Director of the Representative Office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine Janthomas Himstra on March 25 signed a Memorandum of Understanding between SFSU and UNDP within the framework of the project “Initial implementation of the accelerated phase-out of HCFCs (ozone-depleting substances) in the region of countries with economies in transition ".
“The State Fiscal Service Customs, one of the structures exercising such control in Ukraine, checks for a license for customs clearance of ozone-depleting substances. Thanks to our cooperation, we will be able to strengthen customs control, improve the equipment of customs offices and prevent the import of harmful substances into Ukraine due to their timely identification,” said Roman Nasirov.
As part of the project, 35 gas analyzers were delivered, necessary for express analysis of the content of ozone-depleting substances, with a total cost of $207.5 thousand. The equipment will be transferred to all regional customs divisions of Ukraine and customs posts in seaports.
